President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un will speak privately at the summit of the two United States and North Korea in Vietnam on February 27-28.
A US official said that the format of the summit in Hanoi was “similar to what was done in Singapore in June. There will be a chance for the two leaders to meet each other” before continuing the meeting with the team.
US special envoy to Pyongyang, Stephen Biegun, is now in Hanoi and will meet with his North Korean counterpart, Kim Hyok-chol, to discuss preparations for the summit.
Until now, it is not yet known the details of the topics to be discussed at the face-to-face meeting.
However, before Trump again praised Kim. However, he continued to stress that Kim must show “meaningful” steps regarding nuclear disarmament if he wants the US to lift sanctions on his country.
Trump has continued to be under pressure since his inaugural meeting with Kim Jong-un in Singapore in June 2018.
During the meeting, Trump and Kim produced a joint document related to denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.
However, many parties consider the document not clear enough to measure the extent to which denuclearization must be done technically.
In addition, the US-North Korea is also still at loggerheads regarding the denuclearization process. The United States insists on continuing to impose sanctions on North Korea until the country completely disarms its nuclear weapons.
On the other hand, North Korea wants the US to lift sanctions as the country carries out the denuclearization process.
